  14. CopyRight-IT requires the UltraFind 2.1 application (see below).

  16. CopyRight-IT is an UltraFind Addition (plug-in module) that enables producers and creators of artwork, documents and music (in fact any material which is electronically distributed) to apply a copyright ByLine to a Macintosh file, or series of files.

  18. Once applied, the ByLine will show up in the Finder's 'Get Info' box and will remain attached to the file wherever it goes. The ByLine can contain the words "Copyright 1996 John Doe" as well as your contact information.

  20. INSTALLATION

  22. UltraFind Additions need to be placed in the UltraFind folder (located in the Preferences folder, in your System folder). 
  23. UltraFind automatically loads any Additions it finds in it's folder places them into it's 'Additions' menu from where you can select them.

  25. TIP: If you double-click an Addition, UltraFind will put it in the correct folder for you, and load it into it's menu.

  29. To set up CopyRight-IT with your information, open UltraFind - select the Additions menu, and select 'Configure' from the CopyRight-IT menu.

  31. NOTES

  33. 1) For security reasons, if a file already carries copyright information, CopyRight-IT will not overwrite it. Therefore it can not be used to change information attached to applications etc., and can not be used to overwrite information in files which you have previously applied copyright info to.

  35. 2) CopyRight-IT is of course not going to stop a determined user from hacking your file or illegally copying your work anyway. But it's a start. And doing something is better than nothing. Until we invent a better way, this is it.  At the very least, people will know how to contact you if they find and like your work.

  49. UltraFind is a powerful file retrieval, information and management utility which puts the MacOS file system at your fingertips.  It treats your Mac or network as an information-rich file and text searchable database.

  60. You are welcome to distribute UNREGISTERED copies of UltraFind and it's Addition files to other users, User Groups, Bulletin Boards and Macintosh FTP sites on the Internet.

  62. Apple Magazines, Shareware distributors and Macintosh User Groups are welcome to distribute this software on CD-ROM, cover disk and software collections. Please contact us for the latest version, or see our website.

UltraFind 2.1 has a variety of Additions (plug-ins) which provide a wide range of file management functions. Most of these are supplied free of charge and are available from our WebSite (http://www.demon.co.uk/ultratec/ultrafind.html) and from the major online systems. New Additions are added to our WebSite all the time, so please check the site frequently to see if there is anything you need.
